BTA Vs. Power Head Poll

What are the chances my BTA will manage to find the 1 unprotected power head in my 72” 210 gallon?

  • 112% In fact, it’s probably nuking your tank as you type.

  • 50% You never know. Nems do what they want.

  • 20% The scientific probability, as there are 5 total power heads.

  • 1% Namaste, little buddy. You’re an angel. You don’t even like PHs.

So I added a BTA a few days ago. Prior to its arrival, I covered all power heads. One in the far left of my tank, squeezed in beside the overflow, was clogged immediately by detritus, severely reducing flow and making my torches mad. I took the nylon off it. Almost immediately, the BTA became cranky with the increased flow and walked to the back of its rock. What are the odds it will get sucked into the 1 unprotected PH out of the five in my tank. Please vote.

think it should be fine, if anything it will walk away from the strong flow to somewhere that has less flow or that it is happier.

i had around 70 with 2 unprotected powerheads for around a year until I unpgraded to maxspect 330. The nems never managed to find my ph

When I first placed it, it didn't like the spot and just let go of the rock. It was free-floating. That's what scares me. If it does it again, no telling where it would end up. It worried me enough that I got up at 3 a.m. to look. No idea where it went, but at least it wasn't stuck on the PH.

In my 180 I went from 3 bubble tips to almost 50 at one point. After thinning them out I kept several for over 6 years. 4 power heads unprotected and I never had a nem get in one. Pure speculation on my part but I think when it does happen it because the tank is either not ready or not suited for them. Mine would wander on occasion, ussualy when they got large and were crowded but they never left the rocks to attach to the glass.

Very cool! Mine walked to the very back of the rock work where nobody can see it. ‍

For the love...

One morning I get up and it's behind the rock and hasn't moved. So much for the awesome tank center piece :crying-face:

You could consider hiding your powerheads from the nem. I have no idea what happened to my BTA. He fell down into the abyss and never returned.
