Bubba's SPS Journey

Where is today's picture....you can not miss I am watching you???:mad::mad:;Cyclops
I was posting them as the message came through, lol.

I got some new corals today! They have been in the tank a whole 10 minutes but I couldn't resist not taking pics.

I finally believe I have the ORA Pearlberry. He said he has had his colony for more than 10 years and said it is the true ORA Pearlberry.

He said it's a Caroliniana but people call it a Banana Lokani.

And a small piece of a coral that he said he wanted to see how it would do in my tank. It is orange to the eye.

Looks like my old Carolina. I lost it in the move :(

Can you pm me and let me know where you found it

That little orange nub is interesting. Orange acros are hard to come by, hope it turns out well.
I agree. This is his pic of it in his tank. You can compare it to the yellow one to the right and the green ones. It's orange for sure.

Just saw his pic the other day.. Funny that frag was for you. Will be interesting to see how it turns out in another system.

Thoughts on peppermint shrimp?
Only shrimp I have is cleaner shrimp and pistol shrimp. I've wanted peppermint shrimp for aptasia but was scared of the stories saying they eat sps. I went the copperband butterfly route instead.

Bubba, am I correct in thinking you're using gyres in your frag/growout tank(s)? Would you recommend those over MP40's or...no preference?

The tank I've got in mind is the Deep Blue rimless 60g, which is 48x24x12.

I personally like the gyres better. That being said I haven’t used the mp40’s since 2010. I have three tanks with gyres in all of them.

I would go with the gyre for your tank dimensions. The flow is spread out more instead of a cone shape. I would think if you went mp40’s you might possibly run into low flow in the corners.

You will run into dead spots. I have one of these tanks and have a mp40 and mp10 in it. Get a gyre

I think you're right. My original plan was 2 gyres but someone local was selling a trio of MP40's so I figured I should give it some consideration.

If the deal is good you could probably put two mp40's near the corners on one side of the tank and put the other mp40 in the center on the opposite side so you have full coverage.
