It's hard to tell what a coral will look like at that size. Treat it right and with some time you will have a beautiful colony!

If you think about it, the skimmer is making all the bubbles and filling up the body with "scrubbed" air and it exhaust it through the holes on the top of the skimmer. If you are pulling that air back through the scrubber it's using air that's mostly been "scrubbed" mixed with a little bit of air from the room that goes through the other holes. The air from the outside has a higher co2 level than air than what just went through the scrubber. Also in my experience having a little bit of moisture helps the media last longer and the skimmer provides that. I think they even recommend you add a couple teaspoons of water at the bottom of the co2 scrubber but I stopped doing that since it draws moisture from the skimmer.

One thing you need to be careful of though is if your skimmer overflows it's going to suck that water up through the scrubber and back into the skimmer and fill your tank with whatever comes off the media. I recommend you put a float valve in the skimmer lid and connect it to a controller to turn off if it overflows or have your skimmer drain somewhere else just in case this does happen.

I do have two linked together so I don't have a dip in ph when the media exhaust.

This happened to me last week, spiked my ph at about 9 and slowly climbed back down over 24 hours. Had me so nervous, so far everything looks fine but I won’t be adding the line back to my skimmer unless I get a float valve like you mentioned.

Just got through this thread and it's awesome. I've made a few changes to simplify my system based on what I am seeing here. Thank you for sharing all this information!

I am sorry if you have answered this before but do you have detritus under your frag racks and how do you limit that or deal with that. Or don't deal with it?

Got to be one of the nicest acros I've seen. Love those colors. Looks like a totally different acro from the colony on his site.

I was scared to run it like that until I was able to have it drain somewhere else other than my tank. It now drains into a 5 gallon bucket. The bucket holds more water than the chamber with my return pump so if it does start flooding it will have my return pump suck air before flooding my floors.

I think keeping it simple is the best way. It also helps to identify an issue if things go south.

I do get detritus under the frag racks but it kind of gathers in two piles and I suck it out when I do a water change.

Yes his pic of the Heart and soul needs updating. I think his pic is back in his low nutrient days as the body has a lot of white. I would love to see an update to a lot of his old school corals.
