Bubba's SPS Journey

Nice pickups! Can’t wait for pics!
So the regime basically is:
Temp aclimate in bags for 30 minutes
Then bayer dip from Lowe’s or ace hardware in the ratio 15 ml to 1/2 cup of tank water.
Pour the bag water the frags came in into a separate container.
Put the frags into the bayer for 10 minutes .
Rinse them in another container of clean tank water to try to remove all of the bayer
Most of the time, use bone cutters to remove the frag attached to the frag glue from the plug and put it on a new plug/ tile
Use a flashlight to inspect frags for ANY pests ( don’t trust ANY vendor!)
If the frag is clean you place it and watch it get settled in and start to grow
You nailed it!

If you ever see eggs with the flashlight I’d probably just toss the coral.

Thanks! Appreciate the advice! Anything else to look for on a coral?

I mainly use the cutters and pop the glue the glue the coral is mounted in off the plug. There is a tiny bit of glue left but it's just the way I do it.

You can get Bayer at Lowe's or Ace hardware. I don't believe Home depot carries it but I could be wrong.

I received Joe the coral, BC teen wolf, Greg Hiller's Aqua Delight and a Sunset milli.

I don't mind the questions. Instead of trying to explain how it's all plumbed as it gets kind of crazy, I will make a video tomorrow for you and PM you it.

This ratio is the ticket! I am not sure how many have seen the article Boomcorals did a while ago about different strengths of Bayer and their affects on AEFW but anything less than 15ml per 1/2 cup doesn't kill them. The old standard of 10ml per 1/2 cup just stuns them but once they go back in the tank they start moving again.

Here is the article for those interested

Good link! EVERYONE SHOULD ALWAYS DIP, even if it’s your best friend. I’ve had aefw years ago in one of my old tanks. 50+ BIG healthy colonies and had to rip everything out. Lost 50% including changing all my rock. Sadly you can’t trust anyone in this hobby since everyone now a day is looking to make a quick dollar. Little do they know we are all that’s left, all the ocean bans we should be here trying to help one another out. Dip dip dip guys, and if you can QT.

love this thread and your corals bubbaque. Do you use a port when you take pictures with your dslr?

Wonderful.
Is this a new coral? if yes, it is shy on polyps but will look great in a couple of days!
I get random polyp extension. Some varieties love throwing them out... Some don't. Some need a year before they do... Some do it in the bag during shipping. Who knows?

Nope not a new coral. It’s kind of hard to tell in the pic but if you look close you can see that the tile is set on top of other tiles. I generally move the corals around to a better spot to take pics if they aren’t in a close by spot. By doing that it closes up the polyps

Bubba, I just received vivids hypercrush and joker and was wondering if you have any experience with either acro? He told me the hypercrush is very sensitive and expert acro for sure which always makes me excited for the challenge.

No I don’t own those. I only have two of their corals, one being the confetti and the other being the rainbow delight. Both of those are beautiful corals IMO.

Do you have pics?

I just got them yesterday and came in pretty bleached in color so not worth even worth taking a picture unfortunately...
