Bubba's SPS Journey

My 1st post on your thread, but have followed from day one. I've got 3 pieces of tonga shelf w/ base if you'd like some flat zone.

Oooh new build with my teary eyed dream tank dimensions! One day... one day.

Gonna be epic! Who's building the beast?

So.... no frag tanks? I'll believe it when I see it. Haha! Seriously though congrats and excited to watch!
Its a local builder.

No frag tanks once I transfer everything. You have no idea how hot it is in my garage! It’s like an oven normally then add all the heat from all the lights in there and it gets unbearable. I’m going to try and do my rock work where I can have lots of corals.

Looks good, but that top trim will make it difficult to slide the tank in place without causing a bit of damage. No 80/20? :)
No 80/20, lol. It was too much expensive. I think I’m about $350 for this stand. I was worried about the trim but hopefully I can turn the stand sideways and we can slide it in. If it gets messed up I’ll try and fix it.

The stand looks awesome already! Will you be running the sump in the stand or elsewhere??
Sump will be in the stand. I’m going to try and contain everything all in the stand.

Thanks for following along from the beginning!

Those are some huge pieces you have. I ordered my rock already so I have to see how that would look mixed in. Thanks for the offer!

Great job on the stand Bubbaque.

@SneakyTortuga that hinge remarks is pretty nifty. Never thought about that.
Too many all-in-one fabricators use inside hinges with just that couple of pieces non-stainless steel.

The reefspace that I run has a flush fit front panel that clips into place with plastic slips, negating the need for hinges. Yes, you have to take the whole panel off at once, but once its out the way, it makes maintenance ***** easier with no swinging doors to bump into.

I’ve been slacking on coral pics lately as I’m trying to get ready for the new tank. I’ve been building the stand this previous week and next week a buddy and I are going to build the sump.

I still need to finish the other door, sand, stain and add knobs.

Wow ;Wideyed What are the dimensions of the new build? Will you be using the T5's with LED supplementation again?

Dimensions are 8’ x 3’ x 2’ (360 gallons). The lighting system I’ve liked most is Radions supplemented with t5’s so I’ll be using that again.

If you employ a sump with lids, hinge type won't matter as salt creep and spray is eliminated. It makes for a very clean setup. I don't think I would ever go back to an open sump style.

Bubba you lucky that I don’t live close to you bro, I’d be at your house everyday, lol! Awesome build man, hope that you are even more successful with this one, Kick butt and take names, hopefully mine name ain’t one of those, lol!!!

Wow. What a thread and inspiration.

Ive not seen it in the posts ive read but seen you moved from macro algea to using bio media, do you carbon dose? Or just let the media do its thing?

Any pics of your sump

Jake

Nice work ! ! !
Thanks!

That was quick.
I got to get it done fast as once it drags on I lose motivation to finish. I still need to build the canopy but I am waiting for the tank to arrive so I can build it to cover the top of the water line.

These would look sweet, maybe in a different color...

That does look awesome! The knobs are taking forever to pick out because of my wife. She is redoing the room the tank is in into more of a nautical theme and she wants knobs to match. I have discovered specialized knobs get pretty expensive.

Thanks.

Nope I haven't moved away from macro algae onto something else. Chaeto takes care of all my nutrient reduction methods with no carbon dosing. I can take some pics of my sumps. I have one sump with a skimmer and another that grows chaeto. It's pretty basic.
