Bubba's SPS Journey

@bubbaque - I was looking up information on AcroPower and I think I happened upon one of your posts where you suggested you were going to give it a try. Did that ever happen?

I think I got the sulfur denitrator dialed in perfectly. The effluent out the denitrator is reading 1 ppm and it’s holding the tank at 3-5 ppm for the past week or so. I have probably doubled the amount of food going into the tank since starting the denitrator.

That's great!!

Bubba,
Are you using a peristaltic pump to keep your denitrator dialed in, and not clog?

I did try it and not sure if I used too much but I ended up with dino after a week of using it so I quit using it. I still have a gallon sitting in my stand.

I am using the Toms Aqualifter pump. It has worked great so far and flow seems to stay pretty steady once you get above the initial sulfur denitrator cycle where it’s 1 or 2 drops a second. I have it a steady steam now and it hasn’t slowed down on me.

@bubbaque I have been catching up on your thread for the last couple weeks and now you want to move on from it lol... Well its been a great read and gave me the courage to cut my new tank cycle from a planned 4 month to 2 so I moved everything over from my old to the new and treated it like a established tank by feeding heavy and not worrying about a algae out break and have had great results. Thanks for taking the time to document your journey!

legend has it @FarmerTy is really " @bubbaque " and was using this as a fake thread to somehow divert the attention off of his real thread... there's better pictures over in THAT thread anyway...

Anyone know how to ban someone? :p

I was going to start a new one so I could post pics of stuff other than just sps without people complaining since my thread is titled SPS journey. People have told me I’ve come too far to start over fresh so I will just stick with this one. I will be posting pics of stuff other than just sps in the future so all the strictly sps fans will have to close their eyes, haha.

Darn you @bubbaque, because of you I just bought a sulfur denitrator, LOL!!! What feed pump are you using, sorry if you already posted it.

The denitrator works awesome! I would recommend it to anyone who has nitrate issues.

I am using the Tom’s aqualifter for the pump. You will need a precision needle valve at first as you have to start with a few drops a second.

Yea, I was looking at that pump, until i saw the price, LOL!!! I can buy a Sicce 0.5 for 20 bucks less, LOL!!! I saw it listed for 60 bucks, did you buy it on amazon or ebay? I may just run it off of my carbon reactor pump.

Anyone that complains about ANY of your pictures should be immediately banned from the internet entirely. Any pic you post I will fo shizzle love! haha

I’m not sure what’s up with the prices lately for that pump, it keeps going higher and higher. I bought a couple of those pumps a couple years ago when they were $15.

@bubbaque, Its funny, if you read the reviews that's what everyone says. Like I said, I may just run it off of my carbon reactor pump as it doesn't require much and I have plenty of power left on the pump.

It may be hard to answer this as you run a calcium reactor i believe, but did you notice a bump in Cal and PH?

I dont think bubba will mind, but I'm gonna answer for bubba, regarding the sulfur Rx and CaRx.... I did. it took months for the Ca in my tank to rise from 420 to 520+, and I recently shut it off to let it come down, but it's taking forever. Bubba actually pointed it out to me (duh, though)

You will see a bump in calc if you up your current dosing. What you will see instead is a drop in alk as the bacteria process consumes alk. The reactor does slightly lower ph but maybe not enough where you can tell. It does not lower your ph like a calcium reactor does.
