Bubble agae problem

I need help my 120 gal tank has been up for 2 1/2 months and boy am I haveing a bubble agae outbreak. I am talking about hundreds of them all through the tank I need to find a fish or invert that will for sure eat them. other wise I will be tearing down this tank and letting all the rock die and start over I did glue rock and crushed coral to the back of the tank and it is covered in bubble agae.


please let me know any proven methods.

I am aptasia and mahono and tulip free I need to be bubble agae free.

yup emerald crabs will do the job
i had hundreds also, one rock just CAKED with them and i put 2 in there and they wiped them out in a few weeks
crazy how fast they wok
and theyre constantly eating them so its quick

My tank was riddled with bubble algae a month ago. Emerald crab will feed on the new growth, essentially choking it out in a million years. But a much more effective and expedient method is enlisting the help of a medium to large disjardini tang. I got a 6" one in my 90 cube and by the end of the day it was almost all gone.

I have had some in the past and they never even touched the bubble algae. let me know where you got yours so I can get some that actually eat it. they would be very happy in my tank.

I'm glad to hear so many have had good luck with Emeralds. Most told me they wouldn't work. I got 4 for my 75 and my bubble algae was gone within a week or so. They did an awesome job!! Manually remove the ones you can..WITHOUT popping them. Just give them a lil' twist and they usually break loose.

thanks for the help on that. I am gonna use this advice on my 29 gallon. I have a bad bubble algae problem. how many emerald crabs can I have in my 29 gallon? are there any problems with having them with smaller fish

Emeralds never did anything for me. Mine were the very small, cluster type bubble algae. Manual removal was my only defense.

Emerald crabs do love there bubble algae, but when they are all gone they tend to be naughty. I never had any real damage, but I caught one pulling on a zoa polyp. He had it pulled over to his mouth. I removed him and his buddy, so I never knew what else could have happened. He might have just been cleaning the algae off of it, but I took them out anyway.

When i had a problem with the algae i always bought the bigger of the group that was in stock at the LFS. I bought the one with the biggest claw and after the job was done i put him down in my sump. That was a year ago. He is still in my sump till this day, in my refugium.
