Bubble algae, a syringe, and a cheap scope

Was bored dislodged a piece of BA, grabbed a syringe, and extracted whats inside. Put it on a slide.

Anyone with a better scope might be able to get a clearer picture.

So decided to go back to this slide after it dried.

Same specimen only sometime later and now dry.
 
What i havent seen is a spore.
Just nuclei, connective tissue an chloroplasts.

I might carry this experiment a little further and using just material from inside of the cell. And infect a naive tank to see if it gets bubble algae. Will artificially raise the n and p of the tank with NaNO3 and KH2PO4 and use a compact fluorescent grow light for lighting.

VERY interested in this. This type of work is what got the Bryopsis cure using fluconazole going.
 
Any phycologist I have ever talked to says there are no spores in the bubbles. That idea seems to be a hobby myth

I actually agree with this statement but for some reason deciding to test it [emoji23]
