I picked up some emerald crabs to work on my bubble algae. They don't seem to do anything for the established algae, but I don't see any new growth. Do they eat the new and small stuff? Which would require me to still manually remove the larger growth?

I have noticed a few things about Emerald Crabs.
1) It is sometimes a hit or miss if they eat bubble algae or not.
2) The size of the crab dictates what size of bubble algae is eaten. All will eat the small stuff, but larger emerald crabs can eat the larger bubbles as it has a bigger claw to handle the larger bubbles.
3) Don't expect a fast wipe out of bubble algae. The slow down of growth depends on if you have a nice army of them, size of your tank and how much bubble algae you have.

I've had more success with urchins than emerald crabs dealing with bubble algae.
