So I let my tank go fallow and stopped with the maintenance as there’s too much work with my overwhelmed hospital tank. Aside from water changes each week I don’t do much except feed my shrimp.

i do have a cyano outbreak that started a few weeks ago (thought it was coraline lol) and I was waiting to see if it’ll go away on it’s own while having some chemiclean handy since some corals were closed up for a week now. I’m just wondering if this is part of the cyano or is it something else? There was a green layer on the rocks which is now producing weird air bubbles.

tank is 3 months old

Cyano. Those bubbles are strange, but it isn’t what bubble algae looks like.
Alrighty thanks! From a closer look it might be the cyano film on top of the algae trapping in the oxygen from the algae? I’m far from being an expert but I’ll take it as an explanation :)

Cyano with air bubbles. Blow loose gently with a turkey baster and net or siphon up.
Reduce white light intensity and add 1.5ml per 10 gallons - Liquid Bacteria and at night. . 1ml per 10 gallons of hydrogen peroxide which will break down the nutrients causing this.
Test your nitrates and phosphates to assure the levels are not elevated. Adding a pouch of chemipure Elite will curb the growth of this substance. Clean filters daily the next 5 days as this begins to dissipate.

The main issue of why I’m hesitant with chemiclean is I have no skimmer (broke the hob skimmer on that tank by running it dry without noticing). I qted all the fish which I’m putting in my bigger aquarium while this one goes fallow. The only filtration media on this would be a sponge on a hob aquaclear.

I’ll try your way first. Sounds a lot better
