Bubble Algae: To worry or to not?

OMG! I'm dealing with this crap myself! Almost 2yrs totally algae free and BAM! Ordered a chaeto/pod pack and not only do I get bubble algae but Aptasia as well.
I feel your pain! Siphon out as much as you can with every WC. Making sure NOT to pop them! I use the end of my siphon hose to scrap/remove at the same time. It's been an on going battle, ugh!

I'm telling you scrub your rocks with a toothbrush! For the aptasia, while the rocks are out, place a bit of coral glue over the holes containing the aptasia. It'll take an afternoon and you'll be 100% done with it. Any other method will be less than 100%.

Well that should be easier... sort of lol. If you use a pasta strainer so the sand can pass through back into the tank...
I can't scrub mine off :/ it's all in the sand so I'm syphoning as much as possible.

Here's another wonderful and fun way to kill bubble algae and aptasia! I'm just thankful to have found a use for my laser!

That is awesome!

I have one of them sand sifting tubes with a siphon starter on it if you would like to use it?

here is a pic.

You could use the plastic part to scrape it off.

Thanks Phil. I got me plenty of vacuum tubes and hoses. Just need to rig something up with a little scraper on the end. Was looking closer at the patches and they are all in crevices... Going to have to be creative on this one!

Good idea. Think I'll come up with a small straw type device hooked to a siphon tube. That way I can scrape/vacuum at the same time down in those crevices.

Just buy peppermint shrimp for the aiptasia. I got 3 Saturday from AC and am missing a few aiptasia alrdy. Bubble algae is hard to get rid of since itll use the nutrient available in tank as they are made just as corals do. GL man sucks.

No aptasia in my tank. Just a few small patches of bubble algae.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. I've taken rock out with BA and cooked it and it still came back. No matter what someone tells you, it can't be killed. If you can get rid of the rock, trust me and do it. I know it stinks, but you will thank me later. I had it all over my old reef tank and had SPS, low nutrients, cut down on lights and it only got worse.

My laser method seems to have done the trick. I can target individual undesirables and it kills them without touching anything desirable.

Thanks Mitch. That's frickin' nuts! I sure hope I don't have to go to those lengths to get rid of it.

How does the laser work with bubble algae without spreading the spores everywhere??? Does it just kill everything in it's path or what?

have you seen this?
