Bubble algae

Is bubble algae good or bad and is there ways to get rid of it? Thanks!

Its not good and can spread rapidly.

Controlling nutrients can slow them down allot.

Very little will eat it, Emerald crabs have been know at times to eat some but it is hit or miss... I have owned several and never saw them eat any.
Best way is to remove the rocks in a separate container and remove the burbles with a tweezers. make sure you dig down and get the base out of the rock or they just grow back. The reason you don't remove them in the tank is they are thought to release spores and they actually will spread.

Some people use a small siphon hose to dig them out and suck them up too...

Siphon is the best you don't want it to spread

A fool knows you can't touch the stars, but a wise man still reaches.

It means not to overfeed. If you overfeed, the leftover food will end up as extra nutrients in the water. Bubble algae and other types of nuisance algae love this and will quickly spread.

I had bubble algae on my tank and the combination of chaeto in the sump, emerald crabs, gfo, and less feeding solved it.

I also read that scopus tang, vlamingii tang, and naso tangs also eat bubble algae. I have a new yellow tang I added to my tank 2 weeks ago and im getting a blue hippo in about 4 weeks. so not sure if all those tangs in a 100 gallon tank is possible. thanks for your help keep the suggestions coming :)

right now I have a trickle filter but in a few weeks we are upgrading to a refugium. what is chaeto? I heard emerald crabs eat coral

Don't get a tang just to get rid of bubble algae. It's a 50/50 chance. I actually bought a red sea Sailfin tang because i read the red sea ones eat bubble algae. Guess what? He didn't do a thing. Good thing that i like that fish so i kept it.

Chaeto is a macro algae that competes with other nuisance algae for nutrients in the water. It is easier to get rid of chaeto when your sump gets filled with them. Research macro algaes. Chaeto is the best one to use. Local reefers sometimes give them away so see if you can ask around.

Emerald crabs can potentially eat coral too if they are starving.

Emarald crabs dont work, some may pic at one or two peices and some feel that emerald crabs actually spread them if they would eat them.
Tangs dont work either. I have never seen any tang eat bubble algae.
Manual removal is best period.
It can be slowed down with controlling nutrients, mainly phosphates.
Do you have any other algae growing in the tank.
Just so you know buble algae is tuff to rid, way harder than most other algae.
