Hello guys, i have been in the hobby for over 10 years but i have negleted my tank for about 4-5 years now. A while back we had a bad snow storm come through Dallas and lost lower for 2 weeks. I lost all my fish and most of my coals. I was devistated. Ever since the. I have not added fish or anything. Its been up and running but for the last year this bubble things started showing up and now its infested of this bubble alea. I have had green bubble algea, but never red. I dont know what it is and how to get rid of it. I am planning on getting back into the hobby because my small daughters wanted fish. Im going to attach a before picture when my tank was thriving. But i will also attach a picture of this bubble thing. Any help would be much appreciated ! Thank you in advance !

Not bubble algae but a type of macroalgae known as Botryocladia

Yeah, Red Grape algae (Botryocladia sp.):
I’m not an expert, but it looks to me like it may also be “Red Grape Algae” (to my understanding, both red bubble algae and red grape algae are Botryocladia spp.) - red grape is typically considered positive, red bubble is not. My understanding is that if the bubble is growing on a stalk (if it has a stem), then it’s red grape; if there’s no stalk/stem (just a bubble not raised off the surface of whatever it’s growing on), then it’s red bubble.
+1. The species OP has is decorative and will not become an issue, though it might become the urchin's next salad...

So how do i get rid of it ? I youtube this red grape algea. This guy said to get a tang to eat it. But im sure not all tangs will eat that.

Manual removal and adding livestock that might eat it (like urchins, tangs, or rabbitfish) would be my suggestions.

A little update, i decided to remove 90 percent of my rock and bleach it …. Since im starting back up i decided to go all fresh. I revoed most os my sand and added new CaribSea fiji pink sand. I hope it doesnt take too long to be ready for fish lol. But if this tank went years without fish … it can wait a little longer . Wish me luck.

Oh man you should have sold that stuff. That was on of the coolest macros I've ever seen.
I was thinking about that when the trash bag was getting full lol, but dude … by the time i find a buyer and all that. I just wanted it out of the tank asap.
