I am trying to figure out what to go with it's going to be on my 40 gal with 20 gal sump and I want to expand it with another 40 tied into it later. What skimmer is better the 180 pulls more air and water than the dc150 but from what I understand the dc150 should be better because it the pump is out side and it has more time in the chamber right?

well, my take on it is: They put a larger pump on the 180 but it's installed internally than the other that's external with a less of an air draw. I would think the increased air draw on the 180 makes up for the outside mount of the dc150. However, that's purely speculation.

Can I ask what is driving your choices to the Bubble Kings? I always knew they were a premium, but man, I didn't expect them to be that much. I will say that looking at some of the details. That skimmer pump looks very well designed and not just a pump thrown from one box to another to ship out with a skimmer. They do look like very well put together units.

Well I have always been the type of person that if your going to do something do it right because if your like me and you buy intro to mid grade you will end up wanting better and then selling it and buying it down the road and now your in double what you could have spent the first time and as important as skimming is it's just one of those things you need to have to keep a system clean and thriving in my opinion

Nothing wrong with that! Everyone has their budget and let's just say, I like yours.

However, no matter what the budget, there is good advice to follow here. Research your equipment and buy the right piece of equipment rather than the one you can afford.

Have you made a choice?

No way would I use either. I have a mini 160 on a 30g with 15g sump and it's already overkill. Skims 50% of the time... No way will you be able to dial in a 180.
