Set up my new Bubble Mangus 7 skimmer on the tank today....Ran it in a vinegar/water solution for a day, and rinsed it out.

The skimmer is sitting in 9 inches of water in my sump (manufacturer recommends 9-11)....and the bubbles quickly build up and pour out over the top even when its dialed into the max setting.......so..... Water quickly fills the collection cup. So, I have a few questions:

1) Is this a normal part of the break in period?
2) Should I open up the 'drain', and let the water flow back in the sump?
3) Should I collect the water and dump it? This would be like every 15 minutes!
4). I read in some posts that it may be worth getting a valve to instal on the air intake?
5). Anything else I should consider?
6). Should I just let it run as is, and spill over the top....and patiently wait for it to break in.

I look forward to ANY help.

I'm not familiar with this skimmer. But doesn't it have some way to control the flow of water and/or the amount of air it uses. You could also try raising it up some. The less water it sits in, the more room the foam has to rise up to the collection cup.

At this point with a new skimmer, you can leave the drain in the bottom of the cup open. The small amount of skim you will reintroduce back to the water is minimal. But after a day or two at most, it should be working properly.

Thanks. I raised it, and put a paper towel over the air inlet...and it's working this morning. As it breaks in, I'll remove the paper towel, and lower it back to where it dials in.

I used a valve on the air intake side on my BM 5 until it broke in. If paper towel is working, stick with it.

Yeah....I was doing this last night....too late to go to the Home improvement stores. Do you have a picture of what you got? I may make a trip this morning.

I took the intake from the skimmer to the store to ensure it fit. Good luck!

Glad I found this post, my Curve Elite 7 had been bubbling for about a week now, trying suggestions here today. Fingers crossed

Great info! New tank set-up on Sunday. New Bubble Magnus 3.5 has been going crazy since start up. Partially blocked the air intake and it immediately eliminated the bubble overflow!
