Hey everyone! So I am working on my 90 build and I just got in my bubble magus curve 5. Highly impressed with the build of this skimmer and the quietness of it. I have an eshopps 100 sump and the skimmer chamber water level is relatively deep. With the skimmer set to not restrict any water flow It overflows like mad. I have read some people boosted their curve 5 to just 3 and 1/2 inches of depth. That seems really shallow to me if I hold mine up to that level it doesn't overflow but I'm not sure I want to prop it up that high. Any of you out there have this skimmer? If so how long did it take to break in before it quit overflowing and what is your final depth that you keep it at? Thanks guys!!!

What depth do you have it at now? And it took a fews days for mine to break in(just over the weekend basically) ANd had it running 8 inches and did great there, solid skimmer!

Mine is around 8 in as well. It skims like no other. You have the dial set to max right? It's opposite of what you would think, max is the lowest amount of water flow into the neck.

Mine is 7 inches. It takes a few days just leave the cup off and let it run.... then put your cup on and take some time to observe and tune it to your liking. it will skim heavy or light.

It's at about 7 now, I do have the dial at max, that was tricky to figure out. The higher the number the faster it overflows the lower the less it overflows. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm going to leave it at 7in on the sump floor and take cup off and let run all weekend and see if it settles down. Will let you guys know what happens after two days of running at this depth.

Hey guys update. As of tonight it's still overflowing a lot. I'm wide open on water flow and around 7inches depth. The bubbles have changed consistency over the past few days. Should I make a stand and boost it and inch or so?

Yea I would try a stand eggcrate from home depot works really well. Thats strange its doing that though, its gotta be something to do wiht the water chemistry

I have the curve 7 on my 90 and its in a eshopps sump mine sits right around 8 inches. It took about 7 days to dial in and I'm now just tweeking it a tiny bit here n there. Maybe try priming the air tube. I just put my finger over the hole on the top of the air silincer for a few seconds than release. You might have a air pocket in the air line.. Just a thought.

Water depth here looks good.

A better idea is that my water line in the sump sits just above the bubble plate inside the body of skimmer.

Have not added anything to water. It's just Red Sea salt mixed to proper salinity. Marco dry rocks with the Marco reef safe mortar. I added rocks a week before I got the skimmer. I just built a Small stand out of leftover pvc pipe I had to raise it 2 inches. My ammonia has spiked up some but that's just the cycle in process. I was thinking about adding water from my 30 gallon when I do a water change this weekend. Someone told me that would help transfer beneficial bacteria from my current system to the new one but wouldn't I just be adding waste from my old tank to new??

Actually the stand I built out of pvc is glued together with pvc cement, that's probably not safe to put in my sump is it?

Ugh well I'm pretty frustrated I ran it for a day with top off put it back on and it's still so much bubbles, I boosted it an inch and the water level in skimmer got so low it sucked bubbles out of the output spewing micro bubbles in the whole tank. Going to test with Red Sea tests in the morning will post results. Something has to be causing it.

Mines is sitting in about 8.5" of water, and would overflow like crazy everytime I use chemiclean. I put a valve on the air tube, and would slowly adjust it until it starts to skim properly. Once it skims with the valve fully open, I remove the valve.

Just to give an update. It seemed just have a longer break in than I expected. I am now pulling out dark gunk that I cant leave sitting in the skimmer cup because it literally will smell the whole room up if I so much as bump the skimmer while under the tank! Ive never had a skimmer pull out stuff that smelled this bad! My EsHopps skimmer on my 29 pulled out really dark gunk too but it did not reek this bad. Beyond happy with this skimmer! Thanks for all you guys help and replys on your setups with this skimmer!
