Bubble Master 200 Protein Skimmer

Anyone still running this older skimmer, Have this from about 10 years ago and wondering if anyone is still running one, if designs have improved to where this would be obsolete or if it would still be good to go on a 190g tank. I ran it previous on a 240

Thoughts? planning the next build

I have an old Hurricone Cat 2 that I retired last year. The advancements to skimmer design and efficiency convinced me to make the switch. You will likely have a lot more room in your sump if you decide to bite the bullet too..

I still run my bubblemaster 250. Other then the fact it's gone through a few pumps it still works great. Are you still using mesh wheels? I swapped out the mesh a long long time ago but still happen with performance. I have a newer but still a few year old reef octopus and it's running the same sicce pump.

Yes it still has the mesh wheel, can you still get the pump upgrade somewhere?

Wow how many times have you replaced it? In the 10 or so years I've used the 250 I think I've gone through 3 sets of pumps and maybe one additional set of impellers. You can convert it to a standard needle wheel. You will lose a tiny bit of efficiency but not much. When I ran the mesh wheels they occasionally needed a poke start ect.

I think the 200 uses the same pump as the 250 just one instead of 2. It's now the sicce psk 600 I'm pretty sure. The model numbers have changed a few times through the years but if you buy new pumps now they won't come with mesh. You can also buy just impellers but if your mesh is still working I say go for it. At least when I bought mine this was revolutionary and it was advertised as comparable performance to bubble kings which did not yet have the minis out so they were $1000s of dollars for their skimmers.

It has been out of service for 9 years, just planning my next build and was wondering if I should still use it.
