So Travis at FOH does this religiously and swears by it. I asked my LFS owner and he does not think bubble scrubbing is a good idea. He states that the LPS and SPS do not like bubbles/air getting all up in there business. Travis says it encourages slime coat and helps all floating detritus float up and get caught by the overflow/filter. What is the consensus on bubble scrubbing? Good idea or asking for issues.

Been doing it religiously for a year now. WIll not do without it. It is great for helping in the removal of nutrients and helps the SPS shed slime for better nutrient uptake. I have mine turn on for 7.5 hours 5 days a week after lights out. I also program my powerheads to intermittently blast the bottom of the tank to stir up detritus that the bubbles can cling to and carry away said detritus. Is it necessary? No. Do I believe it to be beneficial? Absolutely. There are threads here on R2R about nano/microbubble scrubbing. Do a search.

It’s also beneficial for folks like me trying to fix a Dino problem. I’m going to add a large amount of beneficial bacteria to my system which could deplete O2 in my tank so the air bubbles help replenish. I’m using the method as seen on ReefDudes YouTube channel.

+1 for good. I use a wooden air stone every night just before the return pump trying to get just the smallest bubbles to the DT.
