Hi everyone, I was wondering what your opinions are on bubble scrubbing? I’ve recently started doing it the day before my water change and anytime I add in new corals, and I’ve seen increased polyp extension on my sps and I was wondering if anyone else had this happen? Also, are there any bad things that can happen while doing this?

I've always seen micro bubbles as bad news...

You don't want them attaching to a fishes eye or a rock or anything like that..

Because anywhere that has a bubble stuck to it would be essentially dry and would start to die. Whenever I get bubbles on my rocks I hit them with a turkey baster to get them off. Also when I pull a rock out of the tank for fragging I always turn it upside down when I put it back so all of the bubbles underneath will float off.

This is also why we have bubble traps in our sumps.

i understand, I do blow off my rocks after I bubble scrub, but I don’t think with an established tank it will kill enough bacteria to do harm IMO

Ya definately blow them off good and make sure no bubbles are stuck on the back or underneath them. You probably won't see any real harm unless one gets stuck to a creature (I haven't actually seen that happen but have heard of it)

The bubbles stick to the fish occasionally but they just shake a little and get it off, I’d assume if it got on their eye it wouldn’t be too bad
