Just bought a BTA yesterday. Looked fine all day, went to bed and woke up to it looking like this. I’ve done a lot of reading and haven’t come across anything like this. Is it dying or just dumping waste.

That's bizarre looking even for a nem.

Bubble tips are odd, and do some strange things when being relocated. Keep a close watch on the anemone and if it does not look better move it up closer to the surface in a plastic basket where there is more flow and see how the anemone reacts

Can you take a better pic? What am I looking at? Are those tentacles with the zooxanthellae ejected holding onto a large chunk of something that may or may not have come from what looks like the enlarged mouth of the nem? Or is that just stringy debris holding onto said large mysterious chunk? Did you feed it recently? The chunk of whatever looks too large and colorful to be waste.

Can you get a clearer pic? Looks like mesenterial filaments but not a good pic, possibly something inappropriately large it was fed previously, ejecting part of itself, the combination of the two.

What do you have as far as water flow? Did you turn off flow to take the pic?

Tank details, water parameters?

It has since released it and is no longer there. I’m not really sure what it was.

Good. If you see it, I'd suck it out and dispose of it so it doesn't break down in the tank, if not probably don't worry about it.

How does the bta look now?

Unfortunately, that nem doesn’t look good at all.. They can definitely exhibit some strange behavior. This is especially true during acclimation.

However, the gaping mouth and gooey appearance is troubling. If it begins to disintegrate or melt down, I would remove it from the tank.

How long has the tank been running and what are your parameters and lighting? What does it look like now?

I would guess it ate something (or tried too) that did not work out and ejected it. Glad it is much better now!!

Definitely a big improvement. The mouth is still open a bit but it looks like it’s perking up nicely.

Maybe it ate something large before you bought it and the stress of moving tanks brought it back up..
