Bubble Tip Interesting

so my rose bubble tip anemone was doing something different yesterday. it has two clarkiis hosting in it right now. it started to move out of nowhere and i thought uhhh ohh somethings wrong, then last night when i checked to see where he had finally moved to instead of moving it was splitting, now i have two yaaaaay woooo hooo :bigsmile:

awesome, ive had palys and zoas split and grow but this is the biggest thing ive had split, it was the size of a saucer plate before it split. i loved having it before, now i cant wait to get home from work to check on it

they can split for reproduction or stress, as nothing has changed much in my tank im assuming its not due to stress. the only thing i could see as stressful was that an sps died but it was just a tiny stick and before it ever shown any bleaching i moved it across the tank from the nem and i run carbon so i dont think that would cause that level of stress. it was huge before and that was when i had just got the clarkii's, the clarkiis feed him until he shuts so maybe the fast growth or split was from the addition of the clarkiis since they are feeding and cleaning up after it regularly. i do also spot feed several times a week and the nem eats it up.

Anemones can split in a few different ways. Looks like the one above split via binary fission, in which the anemone simply pinches itself down the middle. Anemones can also split using pedal laceration, in which small portions of the pedal disk detach and develop into new anemones. Lastly, anemones can split by budding, in which a mini clone grows somewhere on the tentacles, disk, or column, and eventually falls off.
