I've got a GBTA that looks great during the day and shrivels up and opens it's mouth at night. Nitrates are around 20ppm, any chance of not having my tank nuked? When do you call it quits on them for the sake of the rest of your tank?

Just pulled him out and he had no smell of decay, didn't small fishy at all. Does anyone have a nem that deflates at night but looks perfectly fine in the day? He's been doin this for weeks now

And the mouth opening when he's deflated? But then looks great with closed mouth in the morning fully inflated

How much is it deflating? Would like to see a daytime and nighttime pictures to see if this is normal or not.

Here he is during the day and I'll post a pic at night when I take one

Here he is tonight, he looks much better than the last few nights. I'll check on him in a bit and see if he's deflated and post a pic if he is.

When their mouths are open they are usually just getting rid of waste. As long as it is inflating back up it is in good shape. You have to think, these things only eat and poop out of the same hole. We wouldn't look %100 all the time either if that was our case lol

True True! MAK, thanks for the reassurance. I have always just been under the impression that if you see their mouths to freak out lol

I've had my bubble tips do this so
Many times, yet everytime it scares me.

Looking pretty bad again. The clowns were picking at his mouth when it was open and irritating him pretty badly. I put him in this Tupperware container to give him a break from the clowns. Still not good though

You can see his open mouth

perhaps your clowns were too rough with him. Give it time to see if he heals. Just make sure there is still flow into the container but that the clownfish cant get to it.
