I’m thinking of trying to get my nem to split but don’t really want the main peace to move from its placement. When the nem splits do they always move it is it common. I’m thinking of trying to get it to split and filling my tank with them.

From the BTA's that I've had.

On a "natural split" the main one stays and the smaller moves close by.

Just one guys experience

Personally I’d wait it out and not try to split them intentionally, they are such delicate creatures you might loose it. I’ve got two unrelated BTA, one grows to the size of a dinner plate and then splits in half (split three times in two years) my other is the same colour but unrelated and splits almost monthly, it grows a few inches and immediately splits. Same tank, same conditions and they behave so differently. Stress is supposed to be a trigger for splitting, but they also split when happy and it differs between different nems too. But the safest way to try and get a split would be to feed heavily, make sure your nem gets fed couple times a week, keep no3 and po4 low, parameters rock steady and it will eventually split.

As to the moveing, the larger one does not go far from original site. The smaller one wanders everywhere!

Here’s mine....
This is the large slow splitting BTA

This is the smaller one, that splits all the time. Have about 13 of these in the tank last count.

I was just going to feed it frozen raw shrimp 3x a week to induce it. Mine is decent size atm.

I was doing the same, but a couple weeks ago he snagged a chunk of fish frenzy and it seemed to immediately improve his health and coloring. That’s what I feed it now.

Atm I feed mysis shrimp maybe once aweek. But now I’m thinking of feeding raw shrimp hunks 3x Aweek I head that induces

Well after feeding and did a rescape last night and came home from work today with two nems.
