I have bubbles forming on one particular rock, they arrive in the evening and are gone by morning. Facebook forums have advised that they are everything from bubble algae, to Dyno to the nitrogen cycle working correctly?
I have been advised to do all sorts of things from nothing, to blackouts to dosing hydrogen peroxide
Who do I believe?
I have attached the same photo I sent to Facebook for identification purposes.

I have no idea why the picture went up 3 times!!

+1 bubble algae. Try not to pop them in tank. If you can, take the rock out and scrub it in tank water

Unfortunately, the rock cannot come out as it is part of a larger rock. If it is definitely bubble algae though, (versus Dino as suggested in Facebook), surely I could just get another emerald crab? However, if it is bubble algae, why is it always in the same place and always gone in the morning?

The gone in the morning part is a little mysterious. Maybe the emerald crab is in there still and just eats it all up every night ? lol :)

Always in the same place because that's its "root system" I guess. Mine is the same. Always on a the same rock closest to my light.

you sure that's bubble algae? looks kinda like normal air bubbles to me. kinda like the tiny bubbles my cyano creates
Pretty sure. But then again, I’ve never had my cyano create bubbles lol.

At first glance I thought dynos or cyano. I only have experience with cyano and the cycle of bubbles sounds really similar. Light go on, the bubble start forming. It was also patchy like you're describing and would it seemed like it had preferred spots in the tank and would thrive while other areas were left totally unharmed.

how old is the rock? im thinking if its new then its just the air that is escaping the rock, bit by bit. throughout the day a thin layer of cyano grows across the rock and catches some bubbles.

The rock is original to the tank, so it's about 18 months old. Here is a photo of the same rock in the morning - no bubbles?

IMHO - bubble algae is always 'bubbled'. Not day to night - its something else. Also - I read a thread here - about 'popping' bubble algae' as a solution - - ive used it - and it doesnt 'spread all over. (IME).

@Hemmdog. BTw - i was thinking on the bubble algae thing - when you get an emerald crab - they would puncture the bubble first - they dont eat the whole bubble. So - do you think perhaps popping is fine?

I rarely get them, but when I do I pop them. Lol.

I have been told today by my LFS that it is probably cyno.
The green stuff I suspect, (although I don't know for sure), to be polyps from a nearby hammer that got savaged by my urchin!
I am currently trying to suck the bubbles and the purple scum holding them, out in attempt to clear it, (as advised by my LFS).
The green things were holding on quite tightly when I started my first syphon today.
