Hi,

Trust you are all well.

I want to setup a small "frag" tank, as my current nano is getting to full, and I need to start fragging until I can upgrade my main display.

I do not want to spend alot of money, and have the following in mind for a frag setup

  1. Plastic container as a "frag" tank
  2. Hang on back filter, something like a aquaclear or similar
  3. Small wave maker
  4. Tunze LED light
So there will be no sump, protien skimmer etc.

My question is, will this setup work?

Ideally the frags you cut should be in the same water chemistry as they were in when growing. If you cut and move to a different setup they may not make it. So if you can mimic what you have in your nano to the frag tank it should work just fine!

I if understand you currectly. Would it be fine if I frag them, leave them in my main tank where they were for say a couple of weeks to heals up, and then move over to the suggested frag setup?

Correct. More delicate frags like Sps would be better off in the main tank to heal before moving to the frag tank. Unless of course both tanks are either plumbed together or water chemistry is within range.

Awesome. Thank you very much. The idea just sounded so simple, so just wanted to be sure i'm not missing somethig critical.
What media would you guys suggest in the hang on filter?

Could throw some small Bio balls in there with your typical filter floss and you should be good with that. Then if you want to run carbon I would use little mesh bags and put them in the back as well.

Thank you
