So I am fairly new to the world of reefing (6 Months) and especially R2R (Few weeks) and don't necessarily know where to post this. But anyways. I always am looking at the Marketplace feed and all the time i see posts about corals that are $500+ and even today I saw a tiny frag that was $999.99, so what I am asking is, are there any budget friendly corals that really pop and aren't as common? As much as I'd like to save up and spend half a grand on a coral, I personally couldn't justify it. I know what most of the replies are going to be "Save up" "Wait for later" "Too bad" and stuff like that, but like I said I am fairly new to the reefing game and would appreciate hearing/seeing what you're favorite cheaper corals are!

Last Saturday there was a live sale from @AcanLord.com. For every coral you purchased at $20 or higher, you could purchase a coral that cost less than $20. I don't know if he will do it again, but it's an example where you might grab five corals at $10 a frag and another five for $20-$50.

So you can definitely get a dozen frags for ~$200 with shipping as an example.

That sounds like an absolute steal!

I bought 14 the first time (two months ago) and 10 last Saturday. It was a great way to 'cheaply' stock a new tank with some really lovely stuff. So it can be done.

I was just browsing their stock and oh my goodness some of those prices are incredibly low. Might make the girlfriend mad with how many corals I might buy

Many of our awesome sponsors here will have live sales throughout the year. That's a really good time to get some nice corals at slashed prices, as well as freebies or $0.99ers depending on the sponsor. Of course it helps tremendously to have good internet, unlike me :(.

I just remembered there is also @HighTideCoral based out of NY, they have an auction page on Facebook and you can snag some nicely colored pieces from there. I haven't personally purchased from them before but I'm always keeping an eye out on the auctions.

I find that older morphs of zoas/palys are cheaper as they have been around for awhile. Dragon eye zoas come to mind here among others. Also softies in general are cheap but really nice looking. Green polyp sarcophytons look great and can easily fill up a tank.

Don't know where you are but if you can, join a local reefing club. Other reefers are where you're going to get your best deals by far. If that's not an option, there are plenty of more affordable beautiful corals to be had, just stay away from the latest greatest craze corals and you'll be fine.
