Not everything in this hobby has to be expensive. A little hard work and some building knowledge can help you save a ton. Everything was purchased from Lowe’s for under $70. All aluminum and galvanized hardware so nothing rusts. Nothing feels better than doing it yourself!

The side lights even swing up if i need more room to get in the tank via cabinet hinge.

Diy is the way to go, nice job.

There are so many thing you can make. You rivet the hinges? Good thinking using the hinges for more access

i used self tappers on the hinges, went in pretty smooth. the screws that came in the hinge kit were very tiny and probably ment for wood. bigger self tappers made it work though, and for my peace of mind that my lights wont go swimming lol.
 
also a special thanks to the guy who invented zip ties. they are an underrated utility in this hobby
