So I began building my DIY fixture. I had all the whites 8 wired and hooked up to a 40w inventronics. Plugged it in and poof i had light. I thought holy cow fantastic I'm on my way. Then I decided to touch the pentometer(spelling) to dim them possibly. As soon as I did the led's popped and i have tried a different driver and am not able to get them back on.


Any experienced users advice would be grateful, because I'm not sure why they popped or can't be turned on for that matter.

Most LED drivers available are constant current. They build up a current and if everything is good they maintain that current. If there is an open they build up extra current once that open is closed all that current rushes through the LEDs and more often than not fries them. Sometimes its only a few.

With the BJB solderless connectors a loose wire or improperly secured wire can cause this especially while you are handling a hot or plugged in fixture.

With a soldered build, a cold solder more often than not causes this. Been there and done that...A good soldering iron is a must...

The Potientiometer will have nothing to do with the driver surging.

The same thing will happen if you plug in a driver before you connect it.

Check all connections.

Is your build Soldered, using BJB Connectors or Pre Soldered Connectors?

Bill I ordered all of the gear from you guys. its all solder less. All lights were lit so it had to be a closed circuit. the only thing that changed was me touching the potentiometer.

Thats really strange as I've never heard of a Potientiometer causing the driver to surge. I've only seen similar once before with the BJBs and it was a loose 24ga stranded wire that was not secured properly. 20ga Solid is what works best.
