Im cleaning off this build-up from the protein slimmer pump and am wondering if anyone knows what exactly it Is. There’s some everywhere in the first chamber of our refugium. Do we need to remove the build up or is it fine to keep in the tank? Thank you!

Look like the tubes of micro featherduster. Good filter feeder. Remove them from your pumps and equipment, but fine to leave them in the tank.

Hi, sorry but that are tubes from Vermetid snails, isn't good to have them at all, and they can (if aren't already) spreaded everywhere and are mucus like net spreading, that will disturb corals (if you have)
The feather duster worms have more brittle tubes, and all this are spiral like base, which is the main for Vermetid snails. I bet the tubes aren't easy ro brake, mainly at the base. Give the pump Vinegar wash (1/2-3) run the pump in a bucket with the solution for few hours, after all should drop easy with a brush. if no, add a bit more vinegar and run for another hours.
