Building 1st Mixing Station

I'm building my 1st mixing station. It will be in the basement, and I need to pump water up stairs to fill tank (75 gallon).
What is the secret to be able to turn off the water upstairs quickly to avoid any overfilling/flooding.
I'm hesitant to just rely on a wifi-connection to turn off pump; and also worried that a pump with enough head-height will pump too quickly.

A ball valve somewhere in the line upstairs so you can stop the flow?

I use a ball valve on my mixing station line sending water to the tank. However mine is in the garage on the other side of the tank wall so I can walk back and forth within 4 seconds. Maybe wire a kill switch next to the tank for the mixing station pump?

I was going to use a wifi pump to be able to "kill it"; but want some redundancy in case the wifi/app fails me.
A ball valve on hose outlet that I'll reel up to the tank was my plan; but need to make sure shutting off the outlet wont damage the pump while I run back downstairs. These pumps with a large head height pump so much water that I'm a bit worried.
