I have a question for stand builders I have a 280 gallon 72x30, I want to build it out of 2x2 tubing and here is a picture of someone else tank and their's is a 375 acrylic tank and mine is glass, if I do the same as the picture shows, with 2x2 tubing it should hold right? they used 1.5X1.5

You need to work out the load bearing with your tank full. Also a sheet of ply for the tank to sit on would be wise. Also important that it is perfectly level to distribute the weight on the frame equally as best you can considering rock may imbalance this a bit.

My tank full would be around 2600 lbs, so the charts say and I was thinking of two sheets of plywood , what's your thoughts

I have made a couple steal stands one was made out of 2x2x.25 that was for a 220 with no center brace, it was 72.5x24.5x40"tall thing was a tank. Than i made another one out of 2x2x.125 with a center brace and that one was 72.5x36.5x37tall and i now have a 320 sitting on top of that one. I'll find pictures and post them.
To answer your question you would be fine.

2 x at least 1 inch ply should do the trick just make sure it is good quality. Personally for me something over engineered is much easier for you not to worry.

Adam that would be good, specs would too, also its going to be 96" with a 72" x 30 on top

I found a couple pic's from my 220 stand i also had it powder coated to. I would have made my new stand the same but the cost of .25 steal was a little costly especially when i could get the. .125 for less than half of the cost.

Should've mentioned that i put my gusset on the out side of the frame because i was going with a 6 foot 180 for the sump. the stand was 44inches tall i need the height for my skimmer. Than i got the okay from the misses to put the sump in the basement and drill a hole thew the floor. Ireally liked the height because you would walk up to it and it was right their good thing i had a step ladder needed it to work on the tank.

The steal for for 2x2x.25 was like $5.35 a foot cut to length
The steal for 2x2x.125 $2.21 a foot and cut
The powder coat was $150

I have many feet of round chrome moly to build a dirt sprint cat, so maybe I could trade or sell some of it to build a square tube steel 125g stand.

That frame is way over kill. And your going to build yours out of 2x2, you have no worries at all. If your tank has a frame you technically don't need plywood for anything structural. A tank with a frame is engineered to be fully supported on its own frame. I'm a welder and fabricator I could find the specs for you but I am sure that 2x2 would be over kill enough.

The only thing the ply will ensute is you dont damage the bottom of the tank instead of going directly on to a steel frame. There for comfort more than anything
