Building a sump/refugium

I am building a sump/refugium for my 75gal reef tank. my plan is to have cheato and rock in the refugium section. Can I just take some ugly rock from the DT and use that? I've also created a "shelf" on the refugium side of the first baffle to hold a bag of carbon. Let me know your thoughts.

Yup, nothing wrong with that at all. I stuck unused rock from my scape into my sump refugium.
