Building algae scrubber.....need advice

I'm going to build an algae scrubber tomorrow. I'll just pick up a HOB filter, take out the media, throw in the plastic canvas, the lights, and maybe an air line for bubbles?

What lights should I use? Will any red LED strip lighting work? Do I need the bubbles?

I’ve debated the algae scrubber, but a refuge and simple grow light, led, works fine. It’s just another expense, another toy to clean. IMO, it’s easier to have a refuge in the sump if possible

I don't have a sump and don't really want one at the moment
