Hello guys,
this is my first official thread here. right now i'm currently building my dream tank. i do not have the tank yet, but i have decided to post here my journey as i decide and collect the equipment needed to build my tank.

so first off let me tell you what i envision my tank to be equipment wise. the tank itself is going to be a shallow lagoon style reef. it's dimensions is going to be 36"x30"x18".....so you can see that the tank is going to be super deep. part of my goal with the tank is to be as clean and minimalistic as possible. i do not want any cords or things hanging from the tank. this means that the lights will be suspended from the ceiling. it is going to be made out of glass and will be rimless. the stand will also be open so that i can show case the plumbing which means i will be getting colored pvc pipes (blue) and color coordinate everything as much as possible. I want this tank to be lo-tech and as simple as it can be. i will not be adding any dosing pumps or reactors. i will have a sump with a refugium and a protein skimmer, but that is about it as far as filtration is concerned.

the lights i am purchasing will be coming from a friend of mine who has a Turkish friend in Turkey. it is the aquareef pro4 (https://aquareef.com.tr/pro4/) i'm not familiar with the lights, but my friend swears by them. he says that they are equivelant to the Radion G4's. he has one on his 40 gallon reef and his corals all look amazing......so we shall see.

as far as corals go, i want it to be dominated by sps....mainly acroporas. i also want a zoa garden. one of the main features i want is a mangrove tree(s) section. i would also like to keep several clams as well. have not quite decided if i want any softies or other lps corals or not. depending on the rock i get (most likely marco rock's shelf and foundation), i want to create islands.....so i could have an island that has some lps or softies on it.....but that will be much later in the build.....i might change my mind....or not.

so here is what i have so far:
stand.jpg

the stand is an aluminum stand by alufab. the sump is a triton sapphire 34 and the pump is an ecotech vectra m2 (which you can't really see from the photo).

this will be a slow build. so do not expect to see this tank come to fruition all at once. i hope to have the tank by the end of october and probably have the tank up and running before thanxgiving. i'll keep you guys posted as this build moves along.

so what do you guys think?

ok some updates. i am slowly piecing the tank together. here is what i have so far:
1.stand
2.filtration, overflow box, and pump
3.sand
4.rocks (60lbs of marco rock reef saver and 4 marco rock medium foundation rocks)
5.lights should be coming in a few weeks

i just received today my overflow box. it is a Fiji Cube LoPro box that can handle 1600 gallons per hour!!!! it is a bit over kill, but i really like the box. it is super thin and the weir can be removed for cleaning really easily.

advanced aquatanks will be building my tank. i was told they will need the overflow box to make sure the holes they drill will line up correctly. i will be ordering the tank on monday......and hopefully i should get the tank in about 3-4 weeks.

ok question for you guys,
the overflow i bought is a Fiji Cube Low Pro the 1600gph version. it comes with 3x1.5" bulkheads. My Trigger Saphire 34 sump comes with 2x1" bulkheads. should i figure out a way to plumb the drain using the 1.5" pipes? or should i reduce it down to 1"????? will i lose that much flow going 1"????? i do not really have to use the bulkheads that comes with the sump, but it would look cool to plumb it as intended.

edit: so i went with 1" fittings which means i need to reduce down my overflow box to 1". i figured it should be fine with the flow rate. i ordered gate valves so it should be easy to adjust the flow as needed.

ok sorry for the slow updates. i have the tank now along with pretty much everything i need to plumb the tank save for the fact that i ordered the wrong schedule 80 bushings. i should get the correct ones in a few days and probably get the tank up and running this coming weekend.

i'll post pics and go into more detail what is running the tank.....but later probably after everything is done.
