I find a saw works best for cutting PVC. I used a hand saw on most of mine. A miter saw or reciprocating saw is good and fast if you have one other wise a cheap hand saw. I don’t like the cutters my self if you have to cut any PVC that is.

I do have a camera, wifi controlled plugs and a flood sensor though, I might just get lazy on the mods. After all I am in this hobby solely for livestock and corals the rest is of low interest to me unfortunately :p

Think of it this way let’s say you have a $1000 in fish and coral you don’t want them to just die right? It’s the other stuff that will lead to your success and keep you in the hobby long term.

I agree though I’ll be able to shut the pump off from a distance if something goes wrong and arrange it when I get home. I do listen sometimes though...

The pvc cement when dry is fine. You wont kill anything. Ipex 04 is the general purpose cement if Oatey is not avail in Canada. Since your pipes will not be under a lot of pressure, this one is just fine. You can get the primer to be extra safe. I put the cement on both surfaces to be joined so im sure of a leak proof seal.
The different overflows and returns are all good ideas, but for now I would go with what they give you. Once you get going you can make those changes down the road.

Oui certainement que nous voulons ça! After making a purple mess with my pvc I now know this stuff stains quickly as ... but I’ll redo the entire thing in white once I move. Great thing about getting in a new hobby is skills can only improve over time thankfully. In about a year I’ll be making a custom system for this:

Wish me luck ;)

Resurrecting this thread ; buyers beware. I bought de CADlights versa 92g with sump online for 1399$ US. Of course the skimmer return pump and heater provided were quickly replaced since very cheap. I’d be happy with the system had it been in ‘new’ and adequate condition. Not only does it have deep scratches in the sump and on the overflow box but the tank itself has one glass panel cut too long and on a rimless tank it sure looks bad. I contacted cadlights.com about it they said to ship it back which would have meant 500$ down the drain. I then repeatedly sent photos and mentioned their policy. They agreed on a partial refund of 400$ about a month ago and I’m still waiting on it... I’ll update if ever I get that well deserved partial refund. I’ll be using this tank for 3 + years before I have the means to invest another 2k + on just a tank and stand. Wish I had gotten my money’s worth. I’ll go with Red Sea nextime...
