Add a barbed manifold connection with its own gate valve to the main full siphon overflow pipe beneath the display tank. Then attach gravel vacuum to this barbed connection, slowly open manifolds gate valve and start a full siphon. Even add a valve to the siphon tubing near operation space so one can fine tune the power.

The idea is to have the gravel vacuum always assembled and safely attached to the overflow pipe, so siphoned water and detritus is forced directly through existing mechanical filtration without added work or risk of it falling out of place and spilling water. I imagine speeding up the controllable return pump, or adjusting the main overflows gate valve during this process could help mitigate the additional water being added to sump.

Close valves, coil hose and hang inside stand for next time. I think it would lend itself to much easier maintenance with less risk of spills.
