bulb broke in tank...

I just came home and my lights are on a timer, well I noticed something layin in the bottom of my tank and it was the glass to my MH bulb.. should I be worried? It was just the glass.. The bulb is still working, is there any need to replace it or just let it be?

is it a mogul bulb, if so you have to replace it you will burn your corals up with out the glass to block the uv rays.

Yes it was a SE mogul bulb, I shut it off when I got home.. They were on for about 30min or so.. All the corals on that side of the tank are looking pretty bad!!

Running a bulb without the UV shield is not a good idea... I'd replace it as soon as possible.

dont run it at all, without the outer jacket it will leak UV into your tank, which can and will do a lot of dmg to both fish and corals.

Well it's been almost an hr or so with just the actinics on and everything is starting to open up so that's a good sign!

plus I can't imagine how bad you'd get burned if you touched that thing accidentally without the glass on it. MH bulbs are so darn hot even with the glass.
