Hey all. My new project is building a bare bottom mini frag tank. The tank is going to be a Mr. Aqua 11.7 gallon rimless. 18.9L x 11.8w x 11.8h. I am going with a CPR RSS05DX overflow box. 6 3/8" L x 2 5/8" w x 3 5/8" h.
I know I am going with a 1/2" return from the sump. But my question is, what size bulkhead would you use on sending water to the sump? 3/4" or 1" ? Im thinking a 3/4" bulkhead. Remember my overflow box is only 3 5/8" high. I intend on putting flow control valves on both send and return lines.
Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1/2" is more than enough for your needs. I'm not sure any larger would even fit when you look at the outside diameter of the flange and nut versus the room inside the box. The 2 5/8" is the outside dimension of the acrylic box so maybe 2 1/2" or less inside the box to work with depending on the thickness of the acrylic.

So a 1" bulkhead definitely will not fit inside that overflow box. The 3/4" will be tight.
