I apologize for a question that has probably been asked repeatedly, but I was unable to find a thread with the exact answer.

I have read over and over that the true cost of an RODI system comes from the filter replacement cost. And I have had it said to me that you should find a system that accepts a standard size filter so that you can buy generic replacement filters. But what is the standard size?

I am leaning towards this system from BRS but it does not appear to list the replacement filter size. So does anyone have this system? Can I use whatever the standard, generic filter size is for my replacements?

Thank you.

Yes the screw off filter housings on their units use industry standard 2"x10" filters

Can you use any replacement filter? No because the industry also makes 4" x 10" and 2 x 20 and 4 x 20 filter housings.

Awesome. That is pretty much exactly what I needed to know. Thank you very much.

I just changed out some of my DI resin and 1 carbon block it cost me $25 . the last time I changed out was about 6month ago . we use the RO quite a bit for drinking water and our in laws come and get RO as well. its a small price to pay for pure water

What is meant by "standard" is is a non-proprietary filter, like a RO Buddie uses. There are several "standard" water filter sizes 2"x10", 4"x10, 2"x20" and 4"x20". There are more sizes. Most household RO units, including the ones BRS sells use the 2"x10" filters. So any 2"x10" will fit in them.

Why not save some money, buy a used one and replace all the filters in it for a fraction the cost of a new one. A few months ago I picked up a 4 stage nearly new one for $40 on Ebay.

That's great we live in an agricultural area and I would prefer my kids not drink the ground water from here. So we plan on drinking a bunch of RO water as well once the system is up and running.

That is good info. Thank you.

And honestly I checked the marketplace here, looked on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace, but I always forget about eBay. I will see what I can find on there!
