on a 220 gallon tank, should I use 1 1/2” abs bulkheads or 1 1/4” schedule 80 pvc bulkheads? The holes are 2 1/2” in diameter. I have a total of 3 drains and plan to have up to 1,800gph flowing through the system. Thanks.

Sch80 are thicker and more robust, but generally unnecessary as long as you support the plumbing with hangers. Coralvue actually make a Sch80 1 1/2" PVC bulkhead that will fit in a 2 1/2" hole. They're a little more expensive, but would be an option. I've not used them personally.

Thanks for the Coralvue bulkhead tip. Their 1 1/2” schedule 80 PVC bulkheads are actually less expensive than the ones found at other online vendors.

If you do buy and use them please do let me know your impressions. I was going to use them on my current overflow, but the manufacturer sent regular ABS ones with the unit so I didn't.

I really prefer sch 80 over 40 bulkheads. My current tank is my first personal tank that I have used sch 40 bulkheads on. The 80s seal much better and wont split if you get them really tight.
