I just need someone else opinion on this one. I got a few new tanks and that came with some sch80 bulkheads and i really think the gaskets smell like gasoline. Its pretty strong and is not a smell i have never noticed before on a bulkhead gasket. Not like a new rubbery smell, but like good old gas. A long soak in water and another in vinegar has not helped.

Can anyone give me any insight? is this normal at all? Not sure i want to use them at the point

Do you know if they are EPDM?

Compared with sulphur cured EPDM, peroxide cured EPDM compounds have a better chemical and thermal resistance. ... Peroxide cured EPDM is widely used in the rubber industry due to these enhanced properties. Some using peroxide will give it a strong "petroleum" like smell.

EPDM rubber is used in extreme cold environment applications, outdoor applications, medical devices, extensive automotive applications, household appliances, electrical insulators, water/municipalities applications.

I'm not sure but I'll get a pic up here and maybe that will help?
Not really, most gaskets now a days are Peroxide cured, but that doesn't mean they're all the same as some manufactures add additional mistrials for specific applications and you can't tell by just looking at them.

FWIW, it might be fine, but if in doubt change it out as they are cheap.
