Bulkhead question

What type of bulkheads are you guys using??

ABS

1. Slip & Slip

2. Slip & Thread

3. Thread & Thread

I'm looking to plumb my tanks with one inch overflows & one inch returns.

I know this probably has been asked before but wanna see whats current and new. Post your #!

I've used all 3 types in the past. It just depends on the situation of the plumbing. Just plan accordingly

Yeah, I have to agree with hybrid... I use each depending on what I need it for. E.g., for return lines, I use a thread by thread so I can thread attachments to the inside of tank, like loc-line, drain is slip by thread (inside slip, outside thread), but have used slip by slip before too, so can't say exactly. Next build I'll be using a Ghost Overflow, and will have Slip x FPT, so it really depends on first, what the overflow itself dictates, and second, my preference if I have a choice. There are times threaded is great, but have to be careful in sealing it since water will follow the path of the threads... Hard to answer your question man, wish I could give you a better answer.

Have you thought about a Ghost Overflow or a Reef Savvy overflow? Both the same essentially, and make it really easy; you don't have a choice.

I was looking into reef savvy but wanted to keep things simple since this is my first time attempting to do hard plumbing/sump. Thanks

The LaCo Plasto-Joint stick above. It is designed specifically for PVC threads and recommended by the manufacturers.
I have found them or a similar store brand stick at most better hardware stores.

Sorry one more question if it's ok... If I use plasto-joint-stik, would it be easy for me to unthread my pvc's if i ever wanted to take my tanks down in the future ? Thanks In advance...oh and I think I'm definitely leaning more and more towards thread X thread like u said, it just makes more sense (for drains and returns) I just hope I have good luck sealing these bad boys.

Yes, it remains pliable forever. My inground swimming pool was built in 1983 and they used the Laco Plasto Joint stick on all the threaded PVC for the pumps and cleaning system. Last year I unscrewed the original pump and installed a variable speed pump in its place and the Laco was still pliable and had never dripped in all those years in the Arizona sun. Very very good stuff.
Clean the threads up with a small jewelers file or pocket knife and it will seal great with the Laco.
