Hi all! I'm very new to saltwater aquariums and just ordered a 66 gallon SCA PNP system (http://www.scaquariums.com/mobile/Product.aspx?id=37540) which is on its way as I write this. I'm plan to hard plumb it and have been researching the best way to do it. I'd like to order colored pvc and get some gate & ball valves as I've seen done in many R2R build threads.

I'm a bit confused about bulkhead sizing. The tank I bought has 3 holes drilled in the overflow box and says it fits 1" schedule 40. Does this mean that I need to order 1" pvc pipe to plumb everything, or does a 1" bulkhead mean that the pipes need to be smaller than 1" (if so, what size)?

Thanks in advance for any help!

A 1" bulkhead supports 1" piping. The holes (in the glass) will likely be 1 3/4"...

Most LFS sell bulkheads (granted much higher priced than online), if there is doubt, wait until you have the tank and buy them to fit.

Also for what it is worth, check the specs on the return pump for the optimal pipe size.
