well, I am finally going to tackle a dripping bulkhead i have been looking at for months... I'm not sure if it's the seal or just needs so teff tap on the threads..... anyway I have a corner overflow that is 31" tall. draining will be easy, the original rubber seal is installed on the waterside of the overflow, BUT, there is no way to get to the bottom to clean the surface for the new rubber seal. so I was thinking of just installing the rubber seal on the outside of the tank(flange side), would that work? is there a reason they only give you one seal with a new bulkhead? Seen people installing the rubber seal all over the place, both inside and out. anyway just wondering about pros an cons

As long as the rubber gasket is on the flange side and not the retaining nut side, it will seal properly, regardless of whether or not it’s on the inside or outside of the tank.

i mistype it was pondering putting it on the nut side... welll dang how am I going to clean the surface.? on the flange side. there is no way in heck i can reach the bottom of that over flow

You can clean it from underneath. You have the drilled hole from beneath. You can fit a couple of fingers through and definitely clean the area around the hole. All you need to do is clean a half an inch or so around the hole to accommodate the gasket.
