I have a Midas blenny nipping the fins of a flame angel & the fins are in really bad shape. I talked to the lfs and am able to take the blenny to them but the store closes in 20 minutes and i live an hour away. I have a bio cube aio system so Im not able to put it in a sump to separate. Can anyone help me with some tips on where to put this guy over night? Im not able to go til tomorrow in the late after noon. Tia

Is it just nipping at its fins? Or is it a constant chasing bullying? If it’s just nipping you could wait until tomorrow afternoon.

It’s just nipping. I wouldn’t say chasing. But its atleast every couple minutes. It’s every time they pass each other . it’s a 32 gallon and there both active swimming all over the tank so they pass each other often.

Is there a way you could separate them. Like block one side of the tank to another? Something else you could do is add a small tub or container inside the tank, put the Midas inside of there, make sure there’s enough water and it’s a closed top, and keep him there till tomorrow.

The last fish I added was a Midas Blenny. Prior to that everything was fine, but afterwards I noticed my yellow Coris wrasse was getting his fins and tail torn up. Eventually he was gone. Although I never witnessed any aggression I have to assume it was the blenny. If I had known I would not have added it. If I see any others with damage he is gone.

I went and grabbed food, came back home ate, and look in the tank to see the my serpent star huggin it in the rocks. I honestly didn’t think it would happen this fast

All my Midas blennies were very mean. I think they need fairly large tanks and a lot of food to be more docile.

Flame probably would have became the bully later once the Midas was removed tho.

Both like much more room than a biocube can offer.

Sorry ya lost them. Stocking a nano with any semi aggressive active fish is difficult.

If you ever have this type of problem again, just puncture/drill holes in a Tupperware container and clip it to the side with the algae scraper or whatever and isolate one.

Thank you for the information! Ill be taking the Midas back, and just keep the 2 clowns for now before getting anything else. Hopefully after some more research I can have better luck with the next fish when the time comes.
