Bummed out. my bubble tip anemone just shriveled up out of nowhere. I just tested the water a few days ago and everything was perfect. No clue what happened. Anyone else have troubles with anemones? Little pricey to buy another without knowing why this one died.

Parameters can swing quickly depending on the size of your tank. What size is your tank and what are the parameters today compared to a few days ago?

They hate unstable water chemistry. 3B8A17E8-AE7E-4FCF-BCAD-CB3FF2FB1543.jpeg

I was just retesting as I added a few Chromis over the weekend but in a 125 gallon - didn’t think I’d see much change. PH -8.0 (could add some marine buffer), ammonia between 0 and 0.25 so still in the safe range, nitrite - 0 and nitrates - 10 ppm

get corals that's tanked raised better chance at keeping them alive for longer with no problems .that's my advice .

what about calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, phosphate, and salinity? how long ago was this tank setup? Are you using rodi water?

Anemone shrivel up all the time. It's not a bad thing. Pics of your anemone and tank age and lighting may help out.

salinity 1.023…don’t have test kit for the others. I’ve had a 55 gallon of the same type for 6+ Years and no issues. This is a newer 125 - just 3 mo. First anemone though.

Salinity should be around 1.025

and are you using API test kits? They seem to be the most unreliable

Maybe give your newer tank time to mature before adding another one. Most people will say tank should be at least a year old but honestly I added mine before I hit a year (6months probably ) a lot of it’s just stability

Though my bubble doesn’t bubble she is a but hole

Yep increase salinity in the tank to 1.025 -1.026 in the next couple of weeks. The tank is also too young for an anemone, not to say it cant work but tanks become biologically more stable as they age.
Is rodi water also being used?

Well crap - now I’m a bit worried I took him out prematurely. I was reading that the tricky part with anemones is that when they die it’s quick and they disintegrate and release a bunch of toxins in your tank that then kill off your other corals. I have a big thriving zoa and noticed it kind of pulled in today in spots which seemed odd. Then a bit later the anemone was all shriveled- small, brown/green tentacles. I actually put him in a bowl separate from the tank. Looks dead to me.

Yes on the rodi water— I can bump up salinity and PH. Maybe do a small water change as I’ve seen some slight swings in PH as the tank gets established

Doesn’t look dead

how long have you had it

They go through phases where they exchange water

Zoas will close randomly nothing strange there

Define "perfect".

Yes, I think you were a bit quick to pull it out.

that is definitely not dead yet, you will know when it is dead as it become mush and usually needs to be siphoned out
