So to give a little backstory, my tank has been chugging along the past few months with all parameters remaining fairly stable (Alk 8.1-8.4, Cal 410-440, Mag 1300-1350) being tested with the Trident. The only thing that has changed were a few days where my temperature swung from 78 to 80 where it is normally within a range of 78-78.6 and also nutrients. My nitrate has always been around 5-12 (NYOS test) and phosphate got up to 0.1 (Hanna) so I used about 3/4 cups of GFO on my Reefer 425XL about 1.5 months ago where I noticed the tips on a couple of my acros began to die. Please note that the lowest I tested my phosphates at during the time of using GFO was 0.03. My lighting is a G4 XR30 Pro, XR15 and T5 hybrid running AB+ schedules at 80% intensity with PAR ranges from 200-350 across my tank. The only other thing I can think of is I have a brown algae on a few of my zoas which I have been battling through Furan-2 dips and have lost a couple due to melting. Because of this I have been running 1/2 cup of BRS ROX Carbon.
Are the burnt tips simply due to low nutrients bottoming out and then springing back up or possibly something else like the zoanthids? Should I cut the tips off and let the acros heal? Or keep it with the algae on it? Anything helps in moving forward, however at this time I'm going to stop with the GFO and let the tank swing naturally.
Thanks!
