Butterfly aggression

I’ve moved a threadfin/Auriga butterfly from QT to DT where I have another of the same fish. Since I put him in the other has chased him and been pretty aggressive. I’ve turned the lights off but the Chase is still on.

The new guy is looking grey - as they would at night anyway- but there is also a little red mark on him.

Luckily the purple tang is leaving him well alone.

The original threadfin has been in there around a month.

Any suggestions? Is it likely to calm down? Should I get him out and back into QT.

Out and into qt or an acclimation box in the DT.

I'm with Salty. If the lights out treatment didn't work, it may never work..
Best to get him out before any real damage is done

Thanks for the advise. Not having much luck with the catch. However he’s now looking normal coloured.

The chasing is more intermittent and it’s only chasing... still try and get him out?

It can cool off over the course of a couple days but as said that’s a risky strategy — a fish can be killed in 12 hours or less.

What tankmates are the aggressors? What size tank?

Depending on how bad the "red mark" is, the best treatment of those red sores on butterflies is to use NFG (nitrofuracine green) in a QT. It's a wide spectrum antibiotic that helps prevent these types of red sores from going sideways real fast.

I missed this, yes agree remove the fish and treat for infection. Can you post a pic, @Tw1?

There is mention of red mark. Any pic(s) ?? Would really help us help you diagnose and treat fish. Sounds like without seeing pic, skin damage or bacteria or open sore but again pics would help
