Hello,

I recently bought a Copperband that looked healthy and was eating frozen mysis at the fish store. I noticed this black spot that looks a bit raised and bumpy and kind of fleshy at some angles. I'm thinking it's a wound or a bacterial infection forming?

He's eating well and hunting down critters. I don't see any other symptoms other than the physical mark.

Not sure what to do for QT, if anything?

This guy was eating so well, I'd hate to lose him. Appreciate the help!

I think there are two white lesions? One below the black eyespot and one on the middle band - is that where the black spot is?
Does it look like a bruise? If so, Uronema is a distinct possibility, shows up sometimes in newly acquired copperbands. Unfortunately it is treatable, so let’s hope that isn’t it.
Can you get clearer pictures taken under whiter light ?

Here are some pics under white lighting. It's the dark spot by the dorsal fin at the top of the middle yellow stripe. It seems to be raised and a piece of flesh seems to protrude from it.

You can see it in the 3rd pic. I'll try to get better shots tomorrow. I know these are pretty bad.

No other signs of distress that I could see. Still eating well and exploring.

Thanks, those pictures are clearer. I still can't rule out Uronema though. Uronema mimics an injury - in fact, most people diagnose it wrong because of that.

If it were an injury - how could it have happened? Fish typically don't just injury themselves that severely by accident.

If the spot seems to be growing larger, you might need to just assume it is bacterial and treat with antibiotics. The trouble is, you'll need a treatment tank to do that. There isn't any effective in-tank treatment for this sort of issue.
