Butterfly for majano’s

I am at the end of my rope in the battle to get them under control. My aptasia filefish won’t touch them. I am willing to drop a butterfly in the tank but the search has come up with a few good possibilities so I am looking for hopefully first hand experience with them. Looking for one that will eat them and may be the most reef safe once they are gone. Raccoon and Pearscale seem to be my two best choices.

I picked up some items locally and now have a Majano issue as well. I think they are ugly! I haven't dealt with them before so I will follow along (I haven't gotten to the point where I'm actually actively researching ways to remove them yet though. I bet we can find solutions on R2R).

My buddy does have some time of 'wand' that he says has been very successful for him. Takes multiple exposures and you can only do it for so long per day, but he's happy with it. I plan to borrow it from him at some point and give it a try.

I recently got a majano wand but it is not a fast process and I am making very little headway. It is cool to see the bubble while you are zapping them.

I just use a syringe with a smaller needle, puncture the mouth and pump in some good old lime juice that you would use to make a margarita. They wither away after that.

I bought one of those like, a year ago and just used it for the first time on some aiptasia. I agree, it is fun to use but has little effect. My hawkfish prevents me from using peppermint shrimp, and I get iffy around poison...butterflies are on the table.

I've tried 3 copperbands and they all died before eating anything. Tried multiple live foods too. Straight from the wholesaler, so I think I'll get one that's been eating in a retail store the next time I try.

I have several hundred of them because I was hoping this aptasia filefish would develop a taste for them like my first one. Butterfly seems like my best answer right now short of dumping 5 gallons of bleach in the tank.

Don't worry man. Majanos are easier to deal with than aiptasia in my experience. They tend to go for spots in the light (while aiptasia can be happy in the dark too), sometimes they are tough enough to pick-off with tweezers, and aiptasia poison works fine too. You'll get through them. Don't give up!

I have used Copper Bands with great succes and I have heard Racoons are good but also not the most reef safe. I have also used Klein's Butterflies and Semilartus. Semis are not the most reef safe either but they are absolutely gorgeous.
